Painless Functional Specifications - Part 4: Tips

Recently I have been interested in writing, especially in English, since I read Joel's suggestion on how to be a good English commander on his blog. In the blog, he listed up five tips to trick people into reading your stuff. I was somewhat impressed by Rule 2 & 5.

  • Rule 1: Be Funny
  • Rule 2: Writing a spec is like writing code for a brain to execute
  • Rule 3: Write as simply as possible
  • Rule 4: Review and reread several times
  • Rule 5: Templates considered harmful

Quote of the day

In fact I think that many people think that clear writing means that something is wrong.
